As a homeowner, you are responsible for maintaining your home and ensuring that it looks good. One part of this is lawn care and landscaping. Throughout the winter, your lawn can take a beating because of the harsh weather. The same is true of the summertime. However, here are a few tips that will help ensure that your landscaping continues looking great throughout the summer.
Mow the Right Way
It is important that you never mow your lawn when it is wet. It should always be mowed when the lawn is dry. In addition, you should mow the grass so that it is roughly 2.5 and 3 inches. You do not want to cut the grass too short or you could leave the lawn vulnerable to the heat, insects, disease, and environmental stress. Also, make sure to leave the grass clippings on the lawn, as they will offer the yard organic matter, moisture, and nitrogen.
Water the Lawn Sufficiently
One of the most important things when it comes to taking care of your lawn during the summer is providing it with sufficient water. Your lawn should be watered early in the morning to reduce the amount of stress that the lawn receives from the sun. You do not want to water at night because this could encourage the growth of fungus. When watering your lawn, it is best to water deep so that the roots get plenty of moisture and the lawn is less vulnerable to heat.
Fertilize the Lawn
If you want to ensure that your lawn looks lush green this summer, then your lawn will need to receive plenty of nitrogen. Nitrogen promotes that deep green color in addition to growth. Nitrogen is found in fertilizer, so make sure you fertilize your lawn. After you apply the fertilizer, keep your children and pets off the yard for a bit. Fertilizing should normally be done every few months.
Watch for Weeds
Weeds can be very damaging to your lawn, as they steal moisture and nutrients from the rest of your plants. If weeds are not taken care of and are allowed to simply grow, they may end up damaging or killing your grass and plants. So, as soon as you see them, it is important to remove them.
